VAVENBY — The Do Not Use order on water from the Vavenby community water system was rescinded today (Jan. 25, 2017).

A public meeting will be held at the Vavenby Community Hall tonight at 7 p.m. to update residents with respect to the water contamination that resulted from a diesel spill into the North Thompson River last week.

The TNRD also announced that today will be the last day in which bottled water and shower facilities are available.

Despite removal of the order, water system users are asked to contact the TNRD immediately if they detect any sign of diesel. The daytime number is 250-377-8673; at night, 250-318-7515.

A water quality advisory is in effect due to high turbidity levels in the river, but the advisory isn’t related to the diesel spill incident.
