The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has serious concerns relating to an unsanctioned music festival of which it has become aware and which is planned to be held within the TNRD on the August B.C. Day long weekend.

The festival, known as the “Electric Love Music Festival,” is planned to be held July 29 through Aug. 1 at the Allie Lake Ranch located near Vidette in TNRD Electoral Area “J” (Copper Desert Country). Concerns held by the TNRD relate to the health, safety and security of anyone planning to attend this event as well as concerns relating to the protection of the local environment.

The organizers of this event have not obtained the required TNRD approval to host this event and the Regional District has numerous concerns relating to both the well-being of those who may attend as well as to the local environment, including:

  • Lack of co-ordinated safety and response plan with RCMP and other emergency services
  • Adequacy of access for emergency vehicles to the event location
  • Risk of wildfire
  • The remote location of the event and distance from medical facilities
  • On-site sanitation and potable water
  • Risk of harm to agricultural lands and sensitive environmental and riparian ecosystems

The TNRD has made the organizers of Electric Love Music Festival aware of the legal requirements to host an event of this kind and the concerns of the TNRD respecting the remote Allie Lake location, but to date the Regional District’s approvals and the permits necessary to hold the event in its current location have not been secured.

The TNRD supports musical performance, the arts and cultural and entertainment gatherings and has significant experience in ensuring through its approvals process that events of this kind (and which have previously included the Merritt Mountain Music Festival) are conducted safely and with measures in place to protect both participants and the environment.

The TNRD cautions those who may consider attending this event that it has not been approved by the TNRD and that there may be health and safety risks related to attending this event.
