HARPER MTN. — A three-km. machine-built downhill bike trail partially funded through an Area P federal gas-tax grant has been completed, according to word from the Kamloops Performance Cycling Centre.
I recommended a $7,500 grant in February from gas taxes designated for Area P towards the new trail at the Harper Mountain bike trail network south of Paul Lake. The KPCC provided the other $5,000 for a total project cost of $12,500. Work got underway in spring and took about a month to complete.
The new trail is suitable for riders of all levels and complements the “Ket-R-Done” 10-km. climb trail built last year. The KPCC has managed the Harper Mountain network, a 25-km. public mountain biking trail network, since 2014.
Thanks to Dana Heyman for sending along some photos of the new trail.
Gas tax money is provided to local governments each year; in the TNRD, the funds are allocated to each electoral area based on population.
