SOUTH THOMPSON — Harper’s Trail Estate Winery has the support of the TNRD for a winery lounge proposal.
The TNRD board voted Thursday (June 16, 2016) in favour of recommending to the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch that it approve a winery lounge application from Harper’s Trail.
Staff recommended that the hours of operation be limited to 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. instead of a 1 a.m. closing as requested by the winery. I moved that the issue of hours be sent to a public hearing for input but the board didn’t want to do that so I then moved that the 1 a.m. closing be recommended for approval.
That one passed. Staff had expressed a concern that there would be noise complaints with a 1 a.m. closing but the area is sparsely populated and it’s doubtful the lounge will stay open that long on a frequent basis, so I felt the application as requested should be supported.
Owners Vicki and Ed Collett intend to provide a beverage service including their own wines and other locally crafted alcoholic beverages as well as occasional entertainment events.
A LCBC winery lounge endorsement allows liquor to make up 20 per cent of sales. Based on building code occupancy limits, a maximum of 87 indoor and outdoor seats will be allowed.
