Western Canada Theatre isn’t just for Kamloops.
Daryl Cloran, WCT’s artistic director, says a significant number of people who attend WCT productions are from rural areas in the TNRD.
Cloran made a presentation to the board of directors about the successful 2015-16 season, which featured a production of Mary Poppins.
Electoral Area Directors approved a request to each contribute $320 of their discretionary funds, for a total of $3,200, towards the 2016-17 WCT season. That season will include a major musical production that Cloran said WCT is keeping for a surprise.
Here are some additional highlights from the Jan. 21, 2016 meeting, as reported in the TNRD’s public newsletter, The Current:
Readings for Bylaw Amendments to OCP
Cherry Creek-Savona Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw 2538, 2016, and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2539, 2016, were both given two readings and will be taken to a public hearing at a future Board of Directors meeting. This application seeks to more accurately designate and zone a property on Sabiston Creek Road in Savona to enable strata conversion subdivision and a shift in how the land will be used. The resort has evolved from a property that has rentable units to a seasonal lakeshore residential use with dwelling units, and the applicant wishes the zoning and use to be aligned.
Update provided on strategic plan
The board accepted a report from the chief administrative officer regarding an update on the 2015-18 TNRD strategic plan. The 2016 operational priorities, which align with the strategic themes of the strategic plan, were also approved by the board.
Water system gets additional funding
An additional $40,000 in Federal Gas Tax — Community Works Funds allocated to Electoral Area “B” (Thompson Headwaters) was approved to fund additional project costs for the Blue River Community Water System upgrade project.
