A couple of familiar faces will lead the TNRD board of directors for the coming year.
Cache Creek Mayor John Ranta, the 2015 board chair, was re-elected today (Dec. 10, 2015) by acclamation at the board’s inaugural meeting.
Ranta has done a stellar job as chair of the board for the past year, both internally in working with other directors, and externally in representing the district.
While Ranta had no opponents in his bid for another one-year term as chair, that wasn’t the case with the vice chair’s position. Elector Area J (Copper Desert Country) Director Ronaye Elliott challenged incumbent chair Willow Macdonald from Electoral Area B (Thompson-Headwaters), and the decision was as close as it could get — they were tied after the first vote by the 26 members of the board.
Rules call for a second ballot when there’s a tie, and a third if necessary, after which the decision is made by drawing from a hat.
However, that didn’t prove necessary, as Elliott was declared the winner on the second ballot. The long-time director said she has excellent relations with local MLAs and the MP and will put that experience to work as vice chair.
