PINANTAN — Residents will officially get their general store back Sunday, June 7.
The rebuilt Pinantan General Store has been open for a couple of weeks but the official opening will be this Sunday. A BBQ will be held from noon to 4 p.m. as a fundraiser for Sam Donovan, who is in B.C. Children’s Hospital.
The store burned down in April last year, leaving residents without a store or post office, and bringing renewed interest in establishing a fire-protection service. Residents are currently in the midst of a petition process to decide whether or not to borrow the necessary money for capital costs and to operate the service via taxation.
Cory George, co-owner of the store, also chairs the Pinantan East Paul Lake Fire Department Association. A community meeting will be held Wednesday night, June 3 at 7 p.m. the elementary school to discuss the petition.
The new store features plenty of parking, a bright, spacious interior and a deck.
