Meeting to discuss water petition

Black Pines residents will meet Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Whispering Pines Community Hall to discuss the petition for a $1.345-million upgrade to their water system.

A formal petition is underway with a deadline of Monday, Jan. 26 to determine if residents want to borrow the anticipated one-third local share of the project, which involves a new intake and construction of a treatment building. At least half the 42 properties on the system representing at least half the assessed value must vote in favour in order for the project to proceed.

If the petition passes, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District will apply for a federal-provincial grant to pay for the other two-thirds.
